Why to “niche down” matters.
When I was growing up in the Sri Lankan Mountains, we didn’t have any hot water facilities, so I had no choice but to have a cold shower.
After I moved away from my country home to a more affluent city, I was introduced to hot water. After that, I never had a cold shower, as I preferred the feeling of warmth as opposed to the cold that I had experienced growing up.
Just imagine someone wants to sell me something to do with a cold shower. They can come up with the best advertising strategy in the world, explain the health benefits etc… Do you think they will them able to sell their product or service to me?
Not a chance, I am not their audience. They would be wasting their energy and resources trying to sell to me because I am not in their target market.
Now on the other hand, if someone wants to sell me something to do with a hot shower, I believe if they have a reasonable product or service, then with a little bit of marketing, I am in, as I am the perfect audience for them.
No matter how hard you try to market your product or service to the wrong target market, even if you are mildly successful, it won’t be worth the effort, cost and resources.
Niche down your target market and put your maximum effort into it. With a little bit of luck, you will achieve your marketing goals.
